Ted Kennedy has been serving in the U.S. Senate for Massachusetts since 1962. He is the patriarch of the ill-fated Kennedy family and is more or less the leader of the Democratic Party.

Although a registered Republican, Ron Paul (R-TX) is seen as more of a constitutionalist libertarian. He is in his 10th term as US Representative for Texas' 14th congressional district. He is also a trained physician.
