Is Hillary Cynical-- or am I?

So, even though I prefer other candidates, I keep trying to tell myself that, as a Democrat, I should still be happy if Clinton ends up winning the nomination. But certain things about her just rub me the wrong way. One of the impressions I have is that she is just too cynical.

Like James Clyburn, I found her recent comments on MLK to be really disturbing. I mean, let's all give LBJ the credit he's due, but really? It is just plain disrespectful to say the selfless, inspirational civil rights leader would've been ineffectual without LBJ to carry out the work he (and JFK on the Civil Rights Act) started. It's stuff like this that makes Obama's message that we need more hope look less cheesy and actually true.

But what about her economic stimulus package announed today? My initial reaction to that was, "Oh, isn't that convenient, to come out with this plan that basically the whole party has been working on but preempt party leaders and call it your own." Now I feel like I'm being the cynical one.

Is my skepticism of Clinton keeping me from judging her fairly? Or is my cynicism merited?

Stefcon,

I think your impressions of Hillary are dead on. While I'm not a Democrat by any measure, I can appreciate Obama's charisma and message of hope. Hillary however is opportunistic. She tells each crowd she's in front of what they want to hear. Any prospect of the various groups she speaks to talking to each other or being smart enough to know how badly she "double-speaks" seems to escape her.

You can "get a sense" about people and Hillary is just evil. She holds no potential of uniting the country (as Obama does). If Billary is elected it will be 4-8 more years of (literally) "he said/she said" stagnant partisan fighting with nothing getting done.

The country cries out for leadership and a vision/direction the entire country can rally behind. Because she's been proven to be dishonest and a blatant liar I see no scenario where Billary can unite the country in any fashion that we need.

They are all cynical, STEFKON & DEEPKEL2000 -- I wouldn't trust any who claimed not to be. You are either naive or transparent mouthpieces for her her opponents (not necessarily Obama -- his weasel words "ill advised" etc. were just that) if you think she meant to disparage the achievements of Rev. Dr. King, or that Pres. Clinton meant Obama's candidacy is a "fairy tale." You know what they meant, if you have been keeping up on the "breaking" developments of this story in the media. So, which is it, are you WHORES or children?

Yes, the NeoCons and thier running dogs find the charisma & "freshness" of Obama exciting. Kerry had those too. Democrats are not going down that road. I'm supporting a Clinton / Obama team. Democrats will decide which deserves to be president, and who should be the running mate. I cannot foresee that either of these stellar candidates would choose anyone other than the second runner-up as her/his running mate.

Welikemike certainly you're smart enough to have a thought and opinion for yourself. It's obvious to any sober person what a media/attention/power whore Billary is. If I were Obama I would run from Hillary as far and as fast as I could...similar to what Bill does any chance he gets.

I think that you should pay attention to the impressions you have of Hillary.  She is a calculating, manipulative, ruthless person who is willing to destroy anyone or anything to promote HER own agenda.  I don't believe for a minute that she actually cares about the country, her only concern is her own self promotion.

It's encouraging for me (die hard republican) to see the lights beginning to come on inside of a democrats head.   Follow your instinct and common sense and hopefully you will end up the same place as me on November 11 (punching the name with the pretty red R next to it!).

You are dead on about Hillary, she is very cynical. She talks down to everyone. Speaking as a Huckabee supporter and a Republican I would rather have Obama as the Democratic nomminee. I can listen to an Obama speach without turing the TV off. When Hillary speaks i have to change the channel or turn the TV off.

The whole matter is boiled down to the fact that it did take JFK, a non-violence leader among the blacks like MLK, and LBJ to finally get all of it in motion. Nothing that serious and long-standing happens overnight.
I do not find Hillary's comment to be cynical but to hit more the target than her oppenent.
This country is in a mess and we need a leader that has the experience and determination to speak out even when what is said may be percieved to be bias.
Hey, she is a woman and the fight for women's rights has been on-going for almost a decade! She still has had the strongest and best platform from the begining addressing issues, serious issues, with solutions.
