National Initiative for Democracy
Mike Gavel has a very interesting proposal. Basically, the idea is a referendum can be proposed not just by government but by citizens. Citizens petition. Lets say you want to propose a law for net neutrality, someone could make such a law, you could sign petition, country would vote on it.
I'm not sure Gravel is good on foreign policy, but this idea is gold.
I think it's an interesting idea, too. I think Gravel has had some really thought-provoking things to say, and it's sad that he's been marginalized as a candidate and left out of debates. Like Kucinich, he may not be a realistic candidate, but he's at least interesting for the purposes of keeping the other guys honest and thinking on their toes.
I agree with stefcon. Gravel has been throwing out interesting nuggets here and there and it's unfortunate he hasn't gotten the press that Paul and Huckabee I have. I feel like, more than any other presidential election (at least that I've been alive for and concerned about) the '08 one has given more voice to the dark horse candidates than I'm certainly used to hearing. It's unfortunate that that voice though hasn't reached out to Gravel.
