The New York State Assembly is the lower house of the state legislature. It has 150 members.
Members of the Assembly are elected to two year terms and each represent districts of equal sizes. They do not have term limits. The Assembly is led by the Speaker of the Assembly. The Speaker is selected by the majority caucus and confirmed by the full Assembly with a Assembly resolution. The majority leader is selected by the Speaker and serves at the pleasure of the Speaker. The minority leader is selected by the minority party caucus.
