Background

Texas holds the largest Republican convention each year, hosting delegates from each of the 254 counties. Participation number exceed the number of delegates to the National Republican Convention. The RPT sends 96 delegates to the National Republican Convention.

Structure

This party is a power up party, meaning that the delegate process starts at the precinct level inside each individual county. From there, the county has a convention to which the delegates and alternates are chosen to the State Convention. There is a floor vote on each level.

Criticism

There is a movement that says the Texas Republican Party has left it's conservative roots. The cumulative effects of the the Trans Texas Corridor, the Business Franchise Tax and the attempted Enforcement of Gardisil immunizations of every girl in Texas 11 years and over. These ideals were brought to Texas by Rick Perry who is the Governor but did not win by 50% of the votes.
