Crime involving firearms has grown exponentially over the past 30 years, leading many to question whether existing gun control laws are effective or whether legislation is needed to close possible loopholes that make for easy access to deadly firearms.

Background

  • The right of gun ownership is, with some restrictions, protected under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
