Democrat Frank Kratovil is accepting victory one week after Election Day in a very tight U.S. House race in Maryland.
The seat was held for 18 years by Republican Wayne Gilchrest until he was knocked out in the GOP primary this year.
Kratovil accepted victory after GOP candidate Andy Harris called him Tuesday morning to concede.
The Associated Press called the close race late last week for Kratovil, who waited for about 4,800 provisional ballots to be counted Monday.
At the end of Election Day, Kratovil was up by 915 votes. That lead grew to a little more than 2,000 votes after the first group of absentee ballots were counted Friday. Provisional ballots tallied Monday added more than 150 votes to Kratovil's total.
