Since 1901 the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded annually by the Norwegian Nobel Committee "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."

The prize, in 2007, is valued at 10 million Swedish kronor (SEK).
