  • Graduated from Princeton University in 1981, Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Elected chairman of the undergraduate student government.
  • J.D. from Harvard Law School, editor of the Harvard Law Review.
  • Married Silda Wall and has three daughters (Elyssa, Sarabeth, and Jenna).

Early Career

  • Spitzer clerked for Judge Robert W. Sweet in Manhattan following his graduation from Harvard Law.
  • Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.
  • Manhattan district attorney's office under Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau, chief of the labor-racketeering unit - Spitzer led the investigation of the Gambino organized crime family that controlled Manhattan's trucking and garment industries in 1992.
  • Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, 1992-1994.
  • Constantine and Partners, 1994-1998 - Consumer rights and antitrust focus.

Political Career

  • New York State Attorney General, 1998-2006. Spitzer unsuccessfully ran for NY Attorney General in 1994. As attorney general, Spitzer focused on civil actions and criminal prosecutions relating to corporate white-collar crime, securities fraud, internet fraud, and environmental protection.
  • Governor of New York state, 2007-08.

Spitzer had been caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute in February 2008 (Source: NY Times).
