Background
- Layfield run for U.S. Congress in Alabama's Third Congressional District in 2006. He was an independant candidate who challenged the Republican for hi seat. Layfield had no donations, no volunteers and collected over 5,000 petition signatures to run as an Independent, however, he received over 4,000 votes in the District's thirteen counties while spending less than 5,000 dollars.
- Congressman Candidate Layfield's run for Congress in 2006 resulted, to some degree, in contributing to the Democratic-Majority achieved that year in Congress. The Republican was forced to spend his one million dollars running against Layfield. He was not therefore able to give it to any fellow republican at risk of loosing that year. Some Republicans lost in their elections to Democrats. The Democratic-Majority was achieved. Now President Obama has a better ability to reach the change we need with a Democratic Congress during his first term.
- Layfield was graduated in 1994 in technical writing at Auburn University.
