Background

  • Layfield ran for U.S. Congress in Alabama's Third Congressional District in 2006. He was an Independent Candidate who challenged the incumbent Republican for his seat. Layfield received no donations, had no volunteers and alone collected over 5,000 petition signatures to run as an Independent, however, he received over 4,000 votes in the District's thirteen counties while spending less than 5,000 dollars. Congressman Candidate Layfield's run for Congress in 2006 resulted, to some degree, in contributing to the Democratic-Majority achieved that year in Congress. The Republican was forced to spend his one million dollars running against Layfield. He was not therefore able to give it to any fellow Republican at-risk of loosing in the election that year. Some Republicans lost their elections to Democrats. The Democratic-Majority was achieved. Now President Obama has a better ability to reach the change we need with a Majority Democratic Congress during his first term. Layfield was graduated in 1994 in technical writing at Auburn University.

Professional Positions

Layfield was selected in 1972 aboard USS Gilmore,AS-16,to work in the Radiation Control Division R-5, frequently briefed and inspected by Admiral Rickover. The crew was asymboled on the ship's forecastle and told that a decision had been made at the highest level, to prepare for six months and to deploy to an overseas location, not to be disclosed. After arriving at forward deployment, the USS Gilmore's activity was referred to by a Fleet Admiral at the time as the most important and vitally critical operation in the Navy. In October of 1973, it became clear to Layfield and to the World that all this was for Israel's defense and in anticipation of support operations for Israel's Three-Day-War of survival. It was in these Naval Operations that Layfield received the first of his Service-Connected War injuries. Layfield was to receive The Meritorious Unit Commendation, from the Secretary of the Navy, in recognition of his contributions in that War as well as the Letter Of Appreciation of the Commanding Officer of the USS Gilmore, which read in part,..."for work in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. Well Done! G.R. Brian, Captain, U.S.N " Layfield was flight instructor and Chief Pilot of Layfield's Flying Services. Layfield was the first pilot to be hit by the Islamics in the International War Against Terrorism. Layfield was pilot in command and survivor of a flight hit by the Islamics, as described in an FBI Report intitled "International Terrorism". He lost his pilot certification as a result of the injuries involved.
He is now Qualifying Broker of Layfield's Land and Home Sales in Phenix City, Alabama.

The Republican was not able to run unopposed. Qualified and campaigned for Congress with 5,000 in personal funds, without any donations.
