Incumbent Senator Frank Lautenberg has indicated that he will seek re-election, but at 84 and on his second stint in the Senate, there is speculation he may retire. New Jersey is typically a blue state so the Republicans will have their work cut out for them.

With incumbent Republican Senator John Sununu's popularity wanning and the Democrats increasingly throwing their support behind former Governor Jeanne Shaheen, the New Hampshire race looks to be a tight race. Sununu is hampered by his support of the Iraq war in a state that demonstrated their displeasure with the war in 2006 by failing to re-elect both Republican Congressmen.

Nicknamed "Mr. 70 percent" after his re-election win in 2006 with 74% of the vote, incumbent John Lynch should have no problems with re-election in 2008. Any challengers are rumored and unlikely to pose a significant challenge. State Senator Joe Kenney (R) is rumored to be the closest to running of any challengers.
