Wesley Clark is a retired four-star general of the US Army. He has worked in the Department of Defense and rose to become the Supreme Allied Commander of Europe-NATO and ran for the democratic presidential nomination in 2004.

Background

  • Wesly Clark was born Wesley Kanne in Chicago. His father died soon after and he moved to Little Rock, Arkansas with his mother. He was adopted by his mother's second husband when he turned 16 and assumed the name Wesley Kanne Clark.
  • Clark attended the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York and graduated as valedictorian and was a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford and graduated with degrees on Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
  • He rose through the ranks in the Army and would eventually become head of the U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) who'se area of responsibility covers the Caribbean, Latin (excluding Mexico) and South America. His last post was acting as the Supreme Allied Commander of Europe who led NATO forces in the bombing campaign in Kosovo during the Balkan Wars in the late 1990's.

  • Director for strategic plans and policy of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1994. He was instrumental in the development of an innovated strategy for exiting Haiti.
