My problem was that abstinence was really ALL that was taught. We got some videos of how fertilization occurs, then lectures on STDs (and how TERRIBLE AND DEADLY AND WIDESPREAD THEY WERE) and were told to be safe, or be abstinent. Unfortunately, our sex ed was biased towards whatever the teacher agreed with, and we weren't given instruction on protection, leading many to abstinence because it was their only implementable option. We need some sort of reform to sex ed to standardize it and make sure children know all the options.
"Having gays move into your neighborhood may increase property values, which will come in handy when you immediately sell your house." "Remember, Jesus would rather constantly shame gays than let orphans have a family." "(Referring to Superman):"He even fought a member of the nerd patrol named 'Brainiac'. And he came here after his home planet of Krypton was destroyed. Most likely by Gay Marriage." "I don't believe gay marriage is a slippery slope down to marrying snakes. I believe marrying snakes is a step up from gay marriage." "And don't think you're off the hook, voters, you're the ones who made this bed. Now you're the ones who are going to have to move over so a gay couple can sleep in it. Tomorrow you're all going to wake up in a brave new world, a world where the Constitution gets trampled by an army of terrorist clones, created in a stem-cell research lab run by homosexual doctors who sterilize their instruments over burning American flags. Where tax-and-spend Democrats take all your hard-earned money and use it to buy electric cars for National Public Radio, and teach evolution to illegal immigrants. Oh, and everybody's high! You know what, I've had it! You people don't deserve a Republican majority! I quit!"
Just a few Colbert quotes that address this topic poorly, but 2AM makes me do silly things.
I'm scared because I have very incriminating search results. I am anti-Bush, which would be apparent, and I have a lot of searches for general information. I'm sorry if I want to know how explosives or guns or torture devices work! I just want the information. If my search for knowledge occasionally includes now-"taboo" subjects, then we've lost and the terrorists have won.
"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." - Richard Jackson
A war that we're really losing
That would be all fine and dandy if the US was really committed to the idea of rehabilitation of criminals. I just don't feel that the American legal system is aimed at rehabilitation.
A war that we're really losing
"George Bush says 'we are losing the war on drugs'. Well you know what that implies? There's a war going on, and people on drugs are winning it! Well what does that tell you about drugs? Some smart, creative motherfuckers on that side." - Bill Hicks
Sometimes the best way to fight a war is to adapt what your enemy is doing. Legalization and regulation of drugs would beat the drug world at their own game. Americans like orderly, labelled, and "clean" products. Packaging sells, and perscription bottles would sell much better than baggies and balloons.
