I agree. If I didn't suffer from the unfortunate circumstance that I live in Michigan, I would be voting for Obama in the primary. But no... my choices are down to Hillary and Dodd. Kucinich will be on the ballot, but only because he withdrew his name too late to take it off. Now, I'm not sure what to do.
NEW FEATURE: Add friends' blogs to the Home Page
I agree with TDavid. I'm quite new here and I very much like what I see, including this new feature. So far, the only "friends" I have are the site Founders that are added automatically upon registration. I don't even know how to find anyone else's blog at this point, actually. For now, I'm enjoying myself perusing all the information on the site and the forums, but I would eventually like to "subscribe" to some choice blogs and perhaps start one of my own.
Partizenship Replacing Citizenship in the U.S.A.?
I agree, but I also believe that the division between Conservative and Liberal is quite real and touches all levels of society. They are diametrically opposed philosophies, which are further charged by differences in religious beliefs. The political division stems from the fact that the Republicans embody Conservatism and the Democrats embody Liberalism with very little sign of compromise or cooperation.
Suggestion for you that think the ACLU is evil:
I support the ACLU. It is one of the very few organizations to which I actually donate money (I am one of the "nearly poor", formerly known as "lower middle class"). Yet, I disagree with the original post. I think TV is a vital part of thinking for yourself. It is simply one source of information and opinions. What these people need to do is stop relying on TV alone. The problem is that most people (or so it seems) don't care enough about most things to bother looking -beyond- their TVs.
Allowing this administration's illegal actions to go without some sort of accountability, impeachment or at least censure, sets a dangerous precedent for future administrations.
Unfortunately, JasonF is correct. As long as Bush can invoke Executive Privilege, impeachment would fail. I still think it is worth the attempt, if only as a way of saying, "We will not simply let you get away with this" to future presidents.
Political Symbolism - Barak and the Lapel Pin
I agree. No flag pin? Unpatriotic. Criticize Israel? Anti-Semitic. Disagree with the Administration's policies? Why do you hate Freedom?
It's ridiculous.
Founding Father you most identify with....
Thomas Jefferson.
"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between church and State." -letter to Danbury Baptist Association, CT "The Complete Jefferson" by Saul K. Padover, pp 518-519
Uhg... how about the schools worry about education?
I agree. It is our government's responsibility to teach our children via the public school system. If our government feels it is necessary to teach health and nutrition to our children, then by all means, do so... but don't think that you can begin to enforce it. That is counter to personal freedoms.
