Hey derstad980, thanks for the profile comment. I dislike Huckabee because of the heavy-handed religious tones he spreads. While Ron Paul is religious, he doesn't try to force it on anyone, and doesn't spout off things like "creating an army of Americans for god". To each his own, but religion is something that I firmly believe should not influence or be spread by government.

I believe that the founding fathers were religious and the Constitution grants rights given to us from God. I am a Republican and a Huckabee supporter living in California. so that is why I believe religion should have a bearing in politics.

Sure, the founding fathers were most likely all religious. But why
do you think they put explicit clauses about the separation of
church and state in the documents they authored? The obvious one
that comes to mind is that they didn't want to create a government
that could persecute them for their religious beliefs if those
beliefs strayed too far from those of the government. This is even
more important today, in my opinion. The country isn't just
christian. There's athiests, jews, muslims, etc. If the government
embraced any single religions (christianity is the obvious choice),
how do you think all the other groups would feel? What happens when
the government starts making choices that favors one of those
religions over the others. I know I don't want to live in a
country like that.

Seperation of Church and State in the Constitution was meant to stop someone from establishing one national religion and then forcing that religion down everyone's throat. That is what truly makes America great.
