Obama lies about Baking Committee
HDL can you relax a bit. For someone so confident in his supposed intelligence your starting to behave like a spoiled child.
Do you truly believe your Candidate's perfect and untouchable for anything he says or does?
Jesus Fasting pt 2: "The Shepherd of Hermas", Word of God!
I have no interest in converting you. I just don't understand why something that adds some positive to others lives is a concern to you. Don't worry about it. Let them live their lives.
On Obama, I can understand your disappointment. Something you reject in total, your Candidate sees as a core quality of his life and persona.
A statement or two from the Center for Science and Culture. Don't get me wrong I don't attest to buying into all of this. The point in this instance is that the Scientific Community is hardly in full agreement with your point of view.
"Contrary to what the NAS asserts, there are fundamental questions among scientists about Darwinian evolution."
Darwin didn't know how the cell worked, but modern biochemists have discovered our cells contain a microworld of molecular machines that function like a factory or a miniature city. More than 700 scientists have signed a statement agreeing that the integrated, organized complexity of life is not what we would expect from a random-and-unguided process such as Darwinian evolution (see www.dissentfromdarwin.com). As biochemist Franklin Harold observed in an Oxford University Press monograph, "there are presently no detailed Darwinian accounts of the evolution of any biochemical or cellular system, only a variety of wishful speculations."
Jesus Fasting pt 2: "The Shepherd of Hermas", Word of God!
Does it make you all uncomfortable that your Candidate is closer to my beliefs in this area than your own? "Lord - Protect my family...." Who was he talking to? Do you believe this was just a campaign stunt and he really doesn't believe in a Higher Spirit? If so, he's a fraud. If not, his intellect must be flawed in your eyes for holding these beliefs?

The quotes were from CNN and the German Press directly. Sorry.

HDL, you obviously miss the point of Spirituality. You try too hard to be believable. Sorry.
3000 years and Geology, Astronomy, Anthropology, etc. and still you no closer to disproving God/Higher Being than before. More depth to understanding our World and things nearby, the more we know the more we know all that we don't know.
In our comfort filled (Western/Industrialized) World we take for granted the value and gifts provided by a Spiritual life.
I like Hope Nation's List as well. And I like the 15th week Trash-talk-a-thon. The only item I see missing that's important in the context of the electorate right now is Energy Policy. Any recommendations on where we squeeze that in?
What about ground rules. Are we arguing each Candidates position or the best approach (in our opinions) to each issue (and then evaluating where each Candidate is relative to the final position?
Also, sources/references. How do you think sources/references should be cited. If including statistics or references of any kind a link must be included for that statistic/source?
Any other comments or suggestions?
We can start with Health Care immediately (and weave Energy Policy in wherever we fill it can fit). HN do you want to initiate the post and frame the argument for Health Care to kick things off?

Great article on cnn.com today covering Obama's symbolic speech in Berlin yesterday. A divided German Press weighs the cost of a Obama Presidency.
Several important quotes from the article (available here- http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/25/obama.review/index.html)
"Barack Obama touched hearts during an impassioned speech to a 200,000-strong crowd in Berlin, German newspapers agreed, but suspicions remain about the White House contender's motives for courting a European audience."
"Barack Obama's address might not have been statesmanlike and it definitely wasn't worldly-wise. But with its symbolism and the message of this 46-year-old, it certainly was the signal of a new era for a new generation on both sides of the Atlantic," the newspaper said.
"...Bild warned that an Obama presidency would place fresh demands on traditional allies such as Germany, which fell out with Washington over the war in Iraq and has refused to contribute combat troops to NATO operations in Afghanistan."
"He didn't say what he expects, but it's not hard to figure it out. He'll call for more German participation during international crises; he'll call for more German soldiers," said Bild. But it concluded: "No matter how you might feel about this: A President Obama would be Germany's friend -- and a fan of Berlin!"
Munich's Sueddeutsche Zeitung sounded a more cautious note, warning that an Obama presidency would be "expensive for Germany."
"He explicitly called for German soldiers for Afghanistan -- he did not say 'more soldiers' but that was what he meant," said commentator Reymer Kluever. "And Obama also indicated this: he will want support as president to wind up the Iraq adventure."
The paper noted too that the speech had been intended less for the crowds gathered in Berlin's Tiergarten park than for "hesitant white voters in Ohio and Pennsylvania, Colorado and Virginia" and said that Obama had proved himself to be a clever tactician, capable of shifting positions to suit his audience.
"He wants to convince (voters) that the world will also listen to a black president... And there's one other thing one shouldn't forget when talking about Obama: He easily reworks even positions that have been written in stone and adjusts to new requirements."
Interesting that even the Foreign Press has made note of Barack's changing positions...Hmmm...is it that obvious!!??? WOW!!
Given that HDL mentioned 15 weeks left in Barack's political career (kidding!!), would anyone be interested in picking an Issue to debate each week between now and then? (Not that other newsworthy items (and other ad hoc items) won't have their usual place as well). This would allow those interested to weigh in, in more depth, on a specific topics and allow the dialogue to be less emotional and more fact based. We could even define some ground rules for how sources are cited/referenced.
At the end we as a group will have solved our Country's problems (in our own minds if nowhere else).
Vast oil, natural gas reserves estimated in Arctic
We need an Energy Vision that encompasses short and long term needs.
Wind/Solar/Tidal will not solve our problems overnight. Even Al Gore recognizes this. Our grid infrastructure is insufficient to deal with this now. Investment needs to be made.
A place for oil will continue to exist regardless. It's in our best interest if this comes from domestic sources rather than foreign sources.
Polar ice caps and glacier melt-off is overplayed. Where ice is melting in one area glaciers are expanding in others. http://www.iceagenow.com/List_of_Expanding_Glaciers.htm
Secondly even if we get all of our Energy from renewable. The balance of the World will not. Profit motive alone should keep Domestic producers interested in this valuable resource.
San Fran - A great example of Liberal thinking...sarcasm
Ok ok it was a lame stretch. We all know that San Fran is the bastion of Liberalism. Their thinking on the Sanctuary City Law is costing honest citizens their lives at the hands of Illegal Immigrants who should've been deported. All due to this flawed policy. Liberal thinking like this we can do without.
My hope is that we're not due to expect this type of thing at the National level.
Jesus Fasting pt 2: "The Shepherd of Hermas", Word of God!
I'm not sure that either of your arguments make sense.
Perhaps I think at a level higher than you understand. Much too cynical and too focused on the minutia to see the bigger picture of my point.
I prefer a "glass is half-full" approach to life. Certainly there are many negatives throughout recorded history that one can cite if one has a mind too. More importantly though I see billions of people the World over and billions before them who gain or gained comfort from their beliefs. I see that as a positive. This Country' founding was based upon a similar belief system held by the Founders.
How do you see your interest in tearing this down leading to a more positive outcome for mankind?
San Fran - A great example of Liberal thinking...sarcasm
Interesting article about San Francisco and it's Sanctuary Law prohibiting cooperation with Federal Authorities regarding Illegal Aliens and deportation. The growing cost to legal/honest citizens.
Is this the Leadership we can expect from Barack and the Dems if give more authority? Will Barack espouse better positions on issues than this?

McCain making you glad you did
CNN TV Host and Online Commentator Glen Beck.
Very good article that discusses the Media bias that slants towards Barack (I know over the years McCain has received good Media coverage but comparing Barack to McCain, let's be honest, the facts of this article clearly show the stats revealing the bias).
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/07/23/beck.obama.media/index.html
The final summary of the article I like as a great comparison of the real value of each candidate.
"As candidates, Barack Obama and John McCain are ironically a lot like the way the media treats them: Obama is the glitzy magazine cover that screams for people to buy the issue, and McCain is the fact-filled article buried inside that makes you glad you did".
New state polls show good news for McCain.
From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney New state polls show good news for McCain.
CNN) â€' During a week he's struggling to wrestle media attention away from Barack Obama's trip abroad, new polls out Thursday show John McCain has narrowed the gap in four crucial battleground states.
New surveys conducted by Quinnipiac, the Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal suggest the Arizona senator is in a more favorable position in Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin than he was one month ago.
The complete article is available here http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/
Now I'm sure the Obaman's (are you ObaMAN's or Oba-persons?) will poke holes in the lie filled article from CNN but at the least this shows the Coronation is not yet complete for Obama.
