Crossfire

Tucker Carlson

I like him some of the time. However, he often uses a tactic that I hate. When debating someone on an issue he often conflates issues to make his point or he veers the conversation in another direction to bolster his statements. This is a very common tactic on talk shows and “news” shows on TV… using an example of something completely unrelated to the topic to make a point. Anyway, that type of garbage drives me nuts.

I’m a fan of Chris’. I do think he goes which ever way the wind blows. Perhaps that is his job. I think he held his own just fine.

Who supports this guy?

I think he is a jackass. He is more of the same. Perhaps he has better ideas than our current president but I’m tired of the hate mongering and the fear mongering. There once was a time in this nation when we looked to our leaders for hope and inspiration. It appears as those days are gone from the Republican Party.

Happiness Is a Warm Gun

Thank you JDubb and Bethany. You have outlined the point exactly. I don’t know how people can have such a strong opinion that the constitution guarantees them the right to own what ever weapon they desire. My guess is that they have not read this portion of the constitution, if any. I know that people can make the argument that guns make us safer. I’ve gone to the range a few times myself. I have enjoyed the thrill of firing a handgun. My main reason for doing this is to know how to use one in case I ever have to. I will not have one in my home though. I have heard the statistics. And yes, the constitution does specifically mention an organized militia. In this day and age, that is the National Guard. Now that posse comitatus is in jeopardy we might have to rethink this???

Suggestion for you that think the ACLU is evil:

I think that it is critical to have people and organizations looking out for our rights. Yes, they do support people that I believe are a drag on our society. They still deserve legal representation under our constitution. There are many issues that we don’t hear about that affect all of our lives. I recently heard of a case where a university was monitoring student’s text messages and other communications. The university maintains that they have to right to monitor all communications on their campus. I might have the specifics wrong but the issue is still the same. Do we have the right to privacy if we are on a university campus? What if we are not a student and we are on a university campus? These are questions that need to be addressed and that is the very thing that the ACLU is doing. And how about all those FOIA cases? They provided valuable information about how our government is being run. Perhaps you believe the FOIA cases are bad. I believe that we should have access to this information.

If the issue at hand was explicitly abortion...

Unfortunately this issue is very divisive. Most people are not willing to consider the other side and the issue has become a political device. Many people put their support behind a candidate because they vow to outlaw abortion. They cling to this one issue when they enter the polling booth. I believe that the pro life candidates will always attempt to fall short of outlawing abortion because the issue gets voters to the polls. By the way, pro choice does not mean pro abortion.

We need 5 political parties.

I like parties also. However, I find that I’m not able to stay out as late as I once did. I start getting tired around 9:00. I think the real issue is the money. I think it is a shame that the Supreme Court ruled that money is speech. The more money you have the more speech you have. I know that the idea of public funding is a turn off for many people. I believe that it would wind up saving us loads of money and would take the power away from those that currently fund their careers. If we could switch to public funding we would find that our elected officials would stop spending money to repay their supporters and in turn cut spending.

Suggestion for you that think the ACLU is evil:

I think the issue has more to do with the constitution than who they stand up for. I’m sure we can all find cases that we agree with and disagree with. I can guarantee that there are plenty of liberals that got upset with them for coming to Rush Limbaugh’s defense over his medical records. We al know that Rush is not a big fan of the ACLU. It is important to have people looking out for our constitutional rights, even if we are wrong. And by the way, freedom of speech does not mean that we are free to say anything we want. It means that the government can not regulate our speech. If I am out on the street, wearing a company shirt, and I blurt out something that my employer feels is offensive, he has the right to fire me.
