I recently filled out a few quizzes to determine who the best political candidate was for me, based on my opinions on certain issues. The one at CBS was pretty solid, it pointed me to John McCain and Kucinich was my #3 man, #2 was someone I don't remember and hadn't heard of.

But I prefer the one at http://glassbooth.org/. It prefaces the quiz with a little sheet for you to balance how important certain issues are from you so they can weight the answers and provide a more accurate measurement. They ended up recommending Barack Obama and John Edwards for me. I always considered myself fairly conservative or at most a libertarian (well, when it comes to the issues - I could never be a libertarian because every one I've met so far has been an asshole), so this is somewhat surprising to me.

One issue which doesn't qualify for 'weighting' is cell phone regulation in the United States. I'm not quite sure how the bureaucracy on this works but it's a total farce that we are required to sign up for 2 year plans for the use of a locked phone with a company for when, in addition, we pay fairly outrageous monthly fees and don't even have access to the hot new shit from Europe and Asia. I'd like to see some more legislation in this area and open the whole thing up, the cell phone infrastructure can't be so privatized that it's too late to save us.
