I'm a Political Science major at the University of South Carolina Upstate concentrating in American Political Theory/Thought.
If you're wondering why I support Dwight D Eisenhower, well 1. He was, is, will always be to me THE Supreme Allied Commander, and 2. I named my dog after him to further immortalize his greatness. I think that extremism in all forms is dangerous, and unhealthy to Democracy. Strive for balance in your views and moderation. Now on that same token I'm pretty extreme in some things. I die hard, extremely believe in Democracy and I believe it is the right of all men and women to be free, to those ends I support the liberation of any and all people from dictatorships. My great grandmother is a Holocaust survivor and I feel it is part of my legacy to support liberties conquest over evil. To that I am extreme. And everything else I take a considered, well thought, well research approach before I just blurt out I hate this or I love this.
Let me start off by saying I like Huckabee, he's a nice guy I met him at the Spartanburg Republican Convention. But, he can't win. He's not a moderate. In 2000 and 2004 the Republican party turned to the Evangelical vote for that extra boost. Now, that agenda has hijacked the Republican party. It wasn't too long ago when being a conservative meant less government involvement in our social life's (i.e it's not the right of the government to tell a woman what she can and can not do with her body), where the economy and foreign policy were key. And believe it or not there was once a time where seeking guidance in the facts of Science was not heretical. Now it seems that all of America's societal woes will be fixed by the dogma of one religion, one segment of society rather than the democratic work of the entire populace together. This is a shame. Now don't send me hate mail, I'm not Christian bashing here. Balance is necessary in a candidate, you don't want an atheist on one end of the extreme and you don't want a minister on the other end of the extreme. You want a moderate as a candidate. The problem here is that Evangelicals aren't savvy enough political operatives to understand this, they see the very limited thin view rather than the larger picture. So please, either you Mike Huckabee if you are going to be the Nominee please appeal to a larger base than just the evangelical who is willing to overlook certain unconservative aspects of your political past, or you the evangelical wise up and realize that in order to beat Obama or Hillary who want to make this a true socialist regime you need a moderate of earthly intellect, and of divine faith.
We will see how Huckabee pans out, I like him, and I would love to see him succeed but he needs to work on appealing to more than the die hard faithful, moderates win elections he must court them aswell.
